Hearthside Room

In the Hearthside Rooms the fireplace is the centre of the room. Each is the original - cast-iron grate, painted timber surround, marble hearth - and is laid fresh every afternoon from October to April.

Ceilings are ten feet, with the plasterwork intact. Beds are super-king, custom-built from Irish oak, and there is a roll-top bath in the bathroom beside a honed limestone shower.

The windows face Aungier Street, and the room is warmest in the evening, when the shutters are folded and the fire has caught.
