The Annex

The Annex is the quietest part of the house. The rooms sit below the level of the street, insulated by three feet of stone on one side and the garden on the other. In the morning the light is green.

Each room keeps its original cornice and shutters. Beds are custom-built from Irish oak, dressed in undyed Belgian linen. Bathrooms are lined in honed Kilkenny limestone. There are no televisions. There is a writing desk under the window.

The garden is planted for the shade - ferns, hellebores, a single espaliered pear against the south wall. Guests are welcome to sit out with a coffee from six in the morning.
